About Western Mysteries

Welcome to Western Mysteries, your gateway to exploring the profound enigmas of esoteric history and archaeology. I am dedicated to adult education, offering classes that delve into the rich tapestry of occult traditions and ancient wisdom. Join me on a journey of self-discovery and intellectual exploration.

My Inspiration

My name is Jim Bennett and my fascination with the mysteries of ancient civilisations, including the Egyptians, Greeks, Persians, and Celts, was sparked during the studies for my BA degree in Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Kentucky. I moved to London in 1976 and embarked on a post-graduate course in Egyptology at University College London and continued on a career that took me to archaeological digs in Egypt, Palestine and Europe. I established the Western Mysteries courses with the hope of sharing this enthusiasm with like-minded individuals eager to explore the mysteries of the past and apply this journey of self-discovery to their present lives.

A Unique Approach

I have over 40 years of teaching experience, including Continuing Education courses in Anthropology and Archaeology at Oxford University, Nottingham University and Reading University. My approach is deeply rooted in academic rigour and practical application. As a practitioner of Hermetic Philosophy and New Age traditions including Wicca, I bring a unique blend of scholarly insight and lived esoteric experience to my teachings, offering a perspective that is both informative and transformative.

Who Benefits from Our Classes

My classes are designed for all age groups who possess a genuine desire to learn more about Occult philosophy, Hermetics, and the Western Mysteries tradition. I aim to provide attendees with a new insight into the workings of the Universe and demonstrate how modern scientific thought can be applied to seven Hermetic principles that will enhance our understanding of both ourselves and our place within the natural world.

"Western Mysteries has opened my eyes to a new way of understanding history and myself. The classes are engaging, insightful, and led by someone with an incredible depth of knowledge."
