My Inspiration
My name is Jim Bennett, and my fascination with the mysteries of ancient civilizations—including the Egyptians, Greeks, Persians, and Celts—began while studying for my BA in Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Kentucky. I moved to London in 1976 to pursue postgraduate studies in Egyptology at University College London, which led to a career that took me to archaeological digs in Egypt, Palestine, and Europe. I founded the Western Mysteries courses to share this passion with others, helping like-minded learners explore the mysteries of the past and apply this journey of self-discovery to their own lives.
A Unique Approach
I have over 40 years of teaching experience, including Continuing Education courses in Anthropology and Archaeology at Oxford University, Nottingham University and Reading University. My approach is deeply rooted in academic rigour and practical application. As a practitioner of Hermetic Philosophy, I bring a unique blend of scholarly insight and lived esoteric experience to my teachings, offering a perspective that is both informative and transformative.
At Bryn Celli Ddu, a Neolithic burial mound in Wales. Even in Prehistory, humans were aware of the link between ourselves and the Cosmos.
Who Benefits from Our Classes
My classes are designed for all age groups who possess a genuine desire to learn more about Occult philosophy, Hermetics, and the Western Mysteries tradition. I aim to provide attendees with a new insight into the workings of the Universe and demonstrate how modern scientific thought can be applied to seven Hermetic principles that will enhance our understanding of both ourselves and our place within the natural world.

In 2002, I proudly published a book entitled Magic and Mysteries of Ancient Egypt, which was created with the valuable editorial assistance of the well-known academic and esteemed Wiccan writer, Vivianne Crowley.
This book extensively examines a multitude of fascinating subjects that I will delve into in greater detail during my forthcoming classes on an Introduction to Ancient Egypt, which will take place in the summer of 2026, providing a comprehensive overview of this ancient civilisation.
Topics included in the curriculum will encompass Hieroglyphs and Writing, Gods and Goddesses, Medicine and Healing, Amulets and Talismans, Temples and Priests, Spells and Incantations, Burial and the Afterlife, as well as many more intriguing aspects of ancient Egyptian culture. For those who wish to put Egyptian magic to practical use in their lives, there are thoughtful suggestions and guidance on how to effectively implement those ancient practices.
